For more than 30 years, Port Townsend has been home to our family. It’s where we raised our children, built lifelong friendships, and came to appreciate the creativity, generosity, entrepreneurial spirit, and craftsmanship that make this community so special.
Twelve years ago, we began creating Port Townsend Vineyards, and ten years ago, we opened our doors. To us, it was more than opening a business. It was our way of investing in a community that had given us so much.
Our goal was never simply to make wine.
We wanted to create an artisan winery where handcrafted wines, genuine hospitality, and meaningful experiences came together. We hoped it would become a place where people gathered with family and friends, celebrated life’s milestones, discovered Washington wines, enjoyed live music, supported local organizations, and simply slowed down long enough to enjoy one another’s company.
We’re grateful to say that vision became a reality in ways we could never have accomplished without this community.
Over the years, Port Townsend Vineyards became much more than we ever imagined. We welcomed thousands of guests through our doors. We hosted live music on the Winery lawn, fundraisers, Wine Club weekends, holiday celebrations, and countless afternoons shared over a glass of wine. More importantly, we watched friendships grow, conversations unfold, and a community gather around something we all enjoyed together.
Along the way, we created local jobs and had the privilege of watching members of our team discover new passions, earn sommelier certifications, pursue careers in hospitality, become winemakers in other parts of the world, and continue making their mark throughout the wine industry. Seeing people grow has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
We’re equally proud of the award-winning wines crafted by our winemaker, Ben Thomas, alongside those who worked with him over the years. His talent, creativity, and dedication helped establish Port Townsend Vineyards as a respected name in Washington wine, and we’re grateful for everything he has contributed.
Most of all, we’re proud of the people.
To every employee who represented Port Townsend Vineyards with warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality, thank you. You helped create the welcoming experience we envisioned from the beginning, and that made all the difference.
To our Wine Club members, thank you. Your loyalty, encouragement, and friendship sustained us through every season. Many of you have been with us from the very beginning, and over the years, you’ve become much more than members—you became part of the Port Townsend Vineyards family.
And to our community, thank you.
Thank you for choosing to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, live music, and everyday moments with us. Thank you for supporting local musicians, nonprofit organizations, and locally crafted wine. Thank you for introducing us to your families and friends and for making Port Townsend Vineyards part of your traditions. We never took that for granted.
As we celebrate our tenth year, we’ve also reached a point where we know it’s time for us to begin a new chapter in our own lives.
This wasn’t a decision made because of one event or one circumstance. It simply reflects where we are today and our feeling that the time is right to begin a new chapter. We enter this final season with grateful hearts, proud of what we’ve built here and looking forward to the chapter ahead.
This final season isn’t about saying goodbye. It’s about celebrating everything we’ve shared together.
Vintage will continue welcoming guests through September 2026. Beginning in October, tasting room operations will move to the Winery for the remainder of our final season.
Our Fall Wine Club Release Weekend will take place September 25–27, followed by Wine Club pickup weekends throughout October. We’ll also continue hosting live music, holiday celebrations, and other special events before Port Townsend Vineyards concludes operations at the beginning of 2027.
As we move through this transition, some operating hours, events, and offerings may naturally evolve. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding, and we’ll continue to keep you updated along the way.
Whether you’ve been with us since opening day or only recently discovered us, thank you for being part of this journey.
If there’s one thing we hope people remember, we hope it’s that Port Townsend Vineyards was a place where they felt welcome. A place where conversations lingered, friendships grew, music played, and community came together.
Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of your lives. It has been one of the greatest privileges of ours.
For more information about our final season, please visit the Port Townsend Vineyards website. There you’ll find our Frequently Asked Questions, upcoming dates and events, operating information, and additional updates about what to expect in the months ahead.
We’ll continue updating the website as plans evolve, so it will be the best place to find the most current information throughout our final season.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Karle & Jens
