2022 Sangiovese

2022 Sangiovese

Historically enjoyed at Italian family tables for generations, Sangiovese is a wine deeply tied to gatherings of friends and family—and our 2022 vintage is no exception. This spritely varietal reveals many expressions, shaped by both age and winemaking style.
On the nose, fennel and anise lend an herbaceous lift, while notes of sweet cherry cola and tarragon unfold across the palate. These brighter tones give way to a refined finish of leather and red currant, adding depth and structure.
Approachable in its youth, this vintage offers a gentle charm now, while promising greater complexity with time—its character continuing to evolve like the long history of communal tables and shared bread it so faithfully reflects.

Tasting Notes
This young, medium bodied Sangiovese delights with aromas of white pepper, smoked cedar and rosehips, reminiscent of the Vernal awakening that shadows our often dark and damp PNW winters. Tart red currant, gooseberry and huckleberry lead our palates through a complex journey from start to finish as we decide whether to enjoy this wine in solitude or paired with lamb shanks or Boeuf Bourguignon.
Winemaker Notes
Grown on Portteus Vineyard in the Rattlesnake Hills and harvested on October 18 on a vintage that started late and finished late. As usual for our Sangiovese, we aged in in Grand Cru barrels from the great Mercurey cooperage in Burgundy, which really brings out the best in the fruit.
