Our 2018 Petit Verdot is a deeply concentrated ruby red giving us a hint of what’s to come. On the nose find aromas of ripe raspberry, vanilla, and cocoa. On the palate the attack is gentle but followed by concentrated flavors of blackberries and ripe black plum with hints of ginger and clove. The finish is long lasting with pleasant and persistent tannins and notes of pipe tobacco, black cherry compote and cedar sprig.
We feel like we struck gold with these grapes in 2018, getting them picked at the perfect ripeness to give us moderate alcohol and healthy acid to give a balanced but exciting wine on the palate. We were able to get what we like from the aroma of the Petit Verdot grape mingled with the hint of a new Frech oak barrel. We only wish we would have made more.
This is a big wine with some complex flavors that will favor full flavored foods like Grilled Mangalitsa pork ribs, cave aged gruyere or baked eggplant with olives, capers and basil.
