Our 2020 Chardonnay was produced from fruit from our vineyard partner Keeler Estate in the Eola-Amity appellation of the Willamette Valley. A lovely pale straw color, this wine has aromas of pineapple, mango, ripe tangerine with a creamy caramel layer gained from the lees stirring in the barrel. The cooler climate of the growing site shows on the palate with bright, refreshing citrus flavors. As this wine was aged mostly in stainless steel with only a trace of new oak the fresh citrus flavors persist to a clean and lingering finish.
Picked on October 4 and pressed whole cluster to minimize skin contact during a year with forest fire smoke a dominant threat in the Willamette Valley. We were lucky to avoid the worst of that and feel we've ended up with a wine that shows a remarkable nuance and complexity for it's age. Neutral oak fermentation and lees stirring passes along a "leesy" character that gives the wine extra texture.
Enjoy with Thin French green beans with butter, lemon and toasted almonds, Baked Halibut with lemon and herbs, or Grilled paprika dusted duck breast.
